Position Summary
The Managing Director is the general contact for The Kick & Push Festival (K&P) for staff, volunteers, student hires and the general public. This position acts as the overall administrator of festival operations. In conjunction with the other senior staff, the Managing Director is responsible for reporting to the Kingston Theatre Alliance (KTA) on the execution of all activities of the festival.
Key Relationships
Reports to the Artistic Producer.
Supervises communications and marketing student hires.
Constant contact with other staff positions.
Contact with venue, funding and other support partners.
Responsibilities
Marketing
Develops and executes a comprehensive strategic marketing and publicity plan for all K&P events which include goals for attendance, outreach, and engagement across multiple platforms.
Evaluates the effectiveness and success of marketing and communication vehicles by extracting data and insights from tools such as, but not limited to, Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Facebook Insights and promotional codes on a regular basis.
Develops online social media communications strategies, including the creation of social media schedules and regular tweets, monitoring and updating social media accounts, and live-tweeting and covering festival and year-round events and screenings.
Builds strong relationships with local, regional and national media.
Oversees critical path and event schedule for festival press releases.
Responsible for festival press kits; works closely with Programming team and Artistic Producer to edit and distribute press releases and press kits.
Secures and manages relationship with any publicity staff, volunteers or organizations.
Works closely with Programming team and organizational partners to create and execute a PR strategy and secure editorial exposure for the festival and its artists.
Attends local Kingston community events (some evenings and weekends needed).
Other duties, as required.
Development & Partnerships
Collaborates with our organizational partners to promote the KTA / K&P and Kingston as a destination for cultural innovation.
Assists Artistic Producer and General Manager in providing sponsorship recognition benefits as related to marketing materials, such as logo recognition and sponsor signage.
Assists Artistic Producer with grant-writing and reporting for marketing related funding requests.
Acts as a representative for K&P / KTA at various art festivals and community events.
Secures and negotiates media sponsorship agreements with the support of the Artistic Producer.
Other duties, as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, formal post-secondary training in marketing, and 3 – 4 years marketing experience. They will also have a willingness to take on diverse tasks, proficiency in MS office and availability to work evenings and weekends in Kingston when required. Experience in project management, particularly in regards to arts festivals, along with a a valid Ontario G Driver’s License, and fluency in French will be considered advantageous.
Dates: May 1st – September 1st, 2019.
Hours: Flexible.
