Call for Artists: Robin Hood

The Lakeside Players are seeking a female-presenting or non-binary Kingston actor to play Marian in our outdoor, English-language production of Robin Hood. This production will take place at The Kick & Push Festival with engagements in Kingston and Southern Ontario. The outside dates for availability are July 28 to August 28, with a minimum pay of $650/week. Applicants should have a strong handle of acting essentials (speech, voice, navigation of text), a strong singing voice, and either experience performing outside or the confidence to jump into an informal street theatre show.

To submit, please prepare a video of one classical monologue (maximum 3 minutes) as well as roughly 30 seconds of singing whatever you enjoy singing, and email it to the following address: thelakesideplayersauditions@gmail.com

The Lakeside Players are happy to make accommodations to actors who require assistance auditioning. Female-presenting and non-binary actors of all ethnicities, shapes, and sizes are encouraged to apply, including CAEA and non-CAEA-affiliated performers. See @thelakesideplayers on Instagram or check out www.thelakesideplayers.com for more info about the company.

Show: Robin Hood
The story: This new adaptation of Robin Hood is designed to be accessible and fun for modern audiences. While maintaining central story points like Robin Hood stealing from the rich and giving to the needy, this version also explores how we can also make change as a community and how a strong message can bring people together. Sounds serious, but our style is patently silly and certainly not to be taken too seriously.

ROLE DETAILS
Character description: All actors in this show have a track of multiple characters, this one revolves mainly around portraying Maid Marian. Marian is a fierce advocate for her community and an inspired leader. Compared to other characters who can feel out-of-date, she is more contemporary in her sentiments. She is noble and deeply sympathetic, but prone to frustration when dealing with obstinate individuals.
Relevant skills and experiences:

- Performing outdoors

- Strong technical acting ability (diction, voice, text analysis)

- Confident singer

Location: Kingston-based actors only (must be able to commute to and from performances in downtown Kingston)

Eligibility: CAEA-affiliated and unaffiliated performers are eligible to apply. This role will be reserved for a female-presenting or non-binary performer. We welcome submissions from all qualified performers regardless of race, religion, cultural identity, sexuality, or disability. We especially encourage actors from historically excluded communities to apply.
